Marc Schaile van Access antwoord:How will the plugin work? I.e. does it work independantly from the audio interface? I read that it's not possible to use 2 or more ASIO drivers simultaniously, so if I want to keep my current computer audio interface, can I disable/not use the TI's interface and still stream audio through USB in realtime? Just like Reason through Rewire in combination with Cubase?
Marc Schlaile antwoord:the TI talks directly to the plug-in and does not use ASIO or Core Audio.
Therefore you can use an independent audio hardware and a TI which talks to
the Virus Control plug-in simultaneously.
right now, we don't offer 24/96 support over USB since the bandwidth would
only allow something like 1 stereo channel
with a communication speed of 12mbit. the reasons behind the implementation
were discussed on this list before and instead of going though it all again,
please read the list's archive first.
as for a successor for the TI, yes there probably will be something in a
couple of years (see Virus A, B, C) but for those who want the new
oscillators, all the delays, the programmable arp and the voice count etc.
etc. etc. maybe it's worth not entirely focusing on having 16 discreet
channel.
right now you get
2x stereo channels to the virus control
3x stereo analog outs
12 mbits allow up to 4 stereo channels in parallel, so the theoretical count
including the analog outs would be 7 stereo or 14 mono.
I agree that more is (nearly) always better but since we decided that the
successor of a previous virus should not be more expensive than the previous
model, some compromises had to be made.
what I'm really surprised with is the fact that all the big news in terms of
sound seem to be absolutely unimportant to you, Renaud - so if it's really
only the fact that the TI has a much better integration and the rest is not
that important to you, I personally would recommend you to wait for a couple
of years until 16 discreet channels with 24/96 (and 7.1 surround etc.) are
standard.
Wavetables, HyperSaw, more voices, better editing environment, better arp (programmable), USB audio and midi, expanded mod matrix, knob quantize mode, multimode with embedded patches, delay and reverb for all 16 parts, better display, more patch storage....
Looks to me like there is a lot to be excited about!![]()

- there are specialised USB "1" audio chips which allow a fast and
relatively easy integration of USB audio into a synth like the virus.
- most of the specialised USB "2" chips recently released would offer more
channels but would not allow an integration of USB MIDI at the same time.
- as for firewire, I personally don't know ANY specialised and available
chip that would support the 32 channels you guys are asking for all the
time.
