The RAVE-O-LUTION 309 is a two-in-one rhythm unit that combines a polyphonic Drum module with a monophonic Bass/Lead synthesizer, and features an integrated Sequencer, complete with Realtime and Step-Record modes. Each Drum set can contain up to 12 Drum Instruments. The individual Kick, Snare and Hihat tracks play Drum sounds selected from the 64 available instruments. The Percussion track plays sounds from one of the 10 Percussion sets. Select from the 128 instruments for the monophonic Bass/Lead track. Cutoff, Resonance, EGs, LFOs, VCF, and Effect settings can be edited and stored with each sound.
Synthesizer: Analogue-Emulation-Synthesis (A. E. S.), featuring a 24 dB/octave, four-pole Filter, with Resonance. With the adjustable Filter-Overdrive, the RAVE-O-LUTION 309 can easily produce delightfully nasty, aggressive sounds! The Sound source is created from 1 and 2 oscillator models with sine, square, triangle, sawtooth, distorted sine, distorted triangle waves, as well as combinations of these waveforms. The waveform's frequency spectrums of these waveforms have been optimized for the Filter's characteristics. The parameters, 'Glide' and the adjustable 'Accent', are assignable to each Sequencer step and allow the RAVE-O-LUTION 309 to create sequences similar to those of the TB-303. The Cutoff and VCA are controlled by the ADSR envelope, whereas the VCA can be modulated by a squarewave controlled by Note duration (VCA-Gate). The amount of LFO modulation (sine, square, saw up, saw down and random) can be individually assigned to the VCA, VCO or VCF.
Drum Expander: The Drum Expander is divided into four Parts (Kick, Snare, HiHat and Percussion). Each Part can be edited with the full compliment of parameters, identical to that of the Synthesizer section. In addition to the basic oscillator models, samples can be routed through these same parameters. The RAVE-O-LUTION 309 easily recreates the classic analog drum sounds, such as those made famous by the TR-808 and TR-909. User edits of each Drum track can be stored in one of 64 memory locations.
All Control surface knob movements, including those of the Drum section, generate Continuous Controller data, output via the MIDI jack. This enables recording Note and Modulation data to an external sequencer, or allows remote control the RAVE-O-LUTION 309 from a software Sequencer. The sound of the selected Drum track can be changed by using the knobs of the Bass/Lead synthesizer, enabling dramatic sound changes of the Drum sounds in Realtime.
Drum computer and Step Sequencer: The Drum sequencing capabilities of the RAVE-O-LUTION 309 are similar in operation to that of certain older, analog machines. Programming Drum grooves is as easy and effective on the 309, as it is with the now-classic TR-series. Any step in the Drum groove can be inserted or deleted with any of the 16 illuminated buttons. The button's LEDs advance with the beat, displaying the exact position within the bar. The Step Sequencer allows precise inputting of a Notes timing, pitch, duration and velocity (one of four values via Step Enter, from 0 to 127 via MIDI). Also, every step can contain a 'Glide' effect or a four-value Accent. The Drum computer and Step Sequencer also send all data to the MIDI Output while recording Controller movements.
Internal Effects processors: For that finishing touch, there are three independent Effect processors on-board. The first is primarily Reverb and Delay effects, the second is Modulation effects and the third is an Equalizer that is placed on the Master Outputs. The intensity for Effects Processors 1 & 2 are adjustable for each Instrument individually.
In its basic configuration, the RAVE-O-LUTION 309 has a single Stereo Output. An expansion option providing two additional Audio Outputs and two Audio Inputs is available. The Outputs are freely assignable and the Inputs treat an external audio sound source as an additional Synthesizer, processed through the internal Synthesizer parameters. Also available are user installable Expansions with more Sounds and Oscillator waveforms.
Expansions
Expand the 309 with the following options:
· Audio-Expansion :
· 4 freely assignable Audio-Outs, (2 x stereo or 4 x mono).
· 2 Audio-Ins (1 x stereo or 2 x mono) with separate realtime- and MIDI-controllable Filters and Envelope Generators for treatment of external Audio signals.
Synthesizer-Expansion :
New Oscillator models with up to four oscillators and new Sounds. Noise-generator. Additional Filters: 12dB-lowpass and 12dB-highpass with resonance. Two additional monophonic Bass-Lead-Synthesizers (only in connection with the Audio-Expansion).
Drum and Percussion-Expansion :
New drum samples and sounds. 20 Percussion-Sets. LFO for each drum section. 128 instead of 64 memories for each drum track. New Drum loops.
